Spring Eating

Namaste, friends and Happy Spring! 🙂

On my journey to wellness, I encountered a book that was given to me a long time ago by a good friend of mine who incidentally happens to be my older cousin. The book is called Claim The Victory: An Introduction to Wholistic Living and was written by Keefa K. Lorraine, N.D., U.B.D. who identifies as an ‘Urban Bush Doctor’.

This book is so insightful and has helped me along my journey. It teaches about how to properly care for your body and listen to it’s needs, as well as live as natural a life as possible. In reading, I came across a chapter entitled “Seasons of Change” which outlined tips for eating and living well according to the seasons.

Spring is time of renewal and regeneration. The vibrancy and energy this season brings is evident in the lush greenery and fresh blooms as nature balances and heals itself. Spring is also a time of healing for you too, flower child. This type of healing takes place through the body’s digestive system (which is responsible for assimilating food and ridding the body of waste) and occurs mainly in the liver.

The key to making the best of the bubbling energy of Spring is to eat yellow foods! Yellow foods such as bananas, ackee and apples contain lots of good stuff like beta-carotene, vitamin C and potassium which stimulate the liver, aid digestive processes, assist in detoxification and encourage a healthy alkaline balance in the body. We can also consume yellow foods in therapeutic raw juices.

My favourite raw juice combinations you can try: Carrot + beet + cucumber / Carrot + beet + coconut water/ Pineapple + ginger

These brightly-coloured foods are not only good for our bodies but they’re also good for our minds! For those of us who like to embrace our inner yogi, yellow is associated with the solar plexus chakra (which is located right below the rib cage and above the navel). Eating yellow foods promotes positive and uplifting feelings and can help fight depression and fatigue, giving an overall feeling of wellness.

Healing herbs for spring include: sage, dandelion, garlic, ginko biloba.

Essential oils for spring: oils of lavender, clary sage, rose, cedarwood and Ylang Ylang.

So, this Spring, be sure to incorporate some yellow, liver-friendly foods in your diet to keep you bright and energized! Be well.

Some conscious meditations brought to us by Lisa Renee featuring the importance of the blood as it relates to carrying sacred information through generations and why we must protect our hearts by embracing compassion, love and understanding.

We are now, more than ever, faced with the challenge of learning how to consciously ward off darker energies which attempt to deplete our supply and weaken us – recalibrating our systems for a period of darkness. Namaste.

“This year will be ongoing, a turbulent and direct assault against the human heart in order to annihilate it completely. So for all of us that are dedicated and aware to our spiritual source that is a component of our heart, we realize the heart is the feeling that allows us to communicate directly with our […]

Good morning and namaste, friends! Time for a little #astrology. Here’s a quick and interesting read that might just come in handy. Be well! – Indira Mahi♡

“The Moon in our birth chart tells us about emotions, nourishment, happiness and Soul. It indicates what energies we feed ourselves to feel happy and how we are being pushed to manifest them. While the Sun suggests what makes us feel alive.” ~Claudia Sapienza Each planet in our birth chart, must be fed, in order to […]

The world is terror-filled

and mostly lonely.

We are left to struggle with life’s concept –

gasping for air, heaving.

We are consumed by glory

choking on the wonders of our salvation,

as we eat and drink of this holy sacrament.

Mindfulness is a source of Happiness.

Namaste, friends. I’ve recently made a few decisions regarding my spiritual journey and I have decided that for the month of March I will be focusing on the topic of mindfulness.

Mindfulness is, in essence, being present in each and every moment. It’s a type of never-ending awareness of everything – while you wash the dishes, drive the car or water your plants. A mindful individual takes the time to consider every action, sound, smell and thought. It sounds a lot like anxiety at first but the difference lies in the objective viewpoint.

The real skill is in seeing things for exactly what they are with no opinions, no positive or negative view, no expectations – only observations. For instance, I’m currently having my cup of tea for the morning and I am reminded with each sip to be mindful. How does it taste? What does it taste like? How does it smell? How hot or cold is it? The key is to notice everything and to take it for exactly what it is as it changes in time.

I like to employ mindfulness in my eating. This has been really great for me recently and I’ve seen huge differences in my state of mind, my appetite, my skin, my weight.. it’s insane. I haven’t felt this good in years!

It started with me paying attention to everything I consumed – and by consume I don’t mean just eat or drink. Television shows, music, poetry, aromas, teas, meals – you name it. I realized that I was consuming without even thinking about it. I was living just to live. Sticking to my usual MO just because… But when you learn to see things for what they are, you can also learn to see even the tiniest effects they have on you.

Your body reacts almost instantaneously to every stimulus it receives. And if you’re looking closely enough, you can see and feel these reactions as soon as it happens. There is such a beauty in mindfulness. Once you train your mind to be in harmony with your body, you’ll never be same again.
